Early one morning, Thomas Pitt is summoned to the office of Victor Narraway, head of Special Branch. An ex-army officer has been shot and the prime suspect is the Egyptian mistress of senior cabinet minister Saville Ryerson. However some things don't add up. Why did the mistress have a gun?
